Product Info
The 2025 Visintini "Palmira" Vino Rosso Venezia Giulia IGP is an incredibly charming, low-intervention red wine produced by siblings Oliviero, Cinzia, and Palmira Visintini in Corno di Rosazzo, right on the border of the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC. Named after one of the winemakers, this 100% Merlot challenges assumptions about the variety by highlighting the grape's fresher, high-vitality, and savory side rather than heavy oak or jammy fruit.Tasting Notes- Aroma: The nose is bright and unblemished, showcasing “aromas of ripe, red fruit and forest berries,” accompanied by notes of wild violets, sweet tobacco, and brambly garden herbs.
- Palate: Wonderfully amiable and light-to-medium-bodied. It leads with crisp red cherries and crunchy wild berries mixed with “signature herbaceous and earthy, chocolatey intrigue” and delicate cocoa nibs. The natural acidity derived from Friuli’s cool nights gives the wine a refreshing, lively lift.
- Finish: Clean, dry, and highly drinkable. It concludes with soft, smooth tannins and a rustic, character-driven savory edge.
Technical & Vinification Details- Terroir: The Merlot vines are planted at roughly 200 meters above sea level in gravel-heavy soils located just south of the main Colli Orientali hills.
- Viticulture: Certified organic and fully practicing biodynamic. The estate values biodiversity and dry-farming methods.
- Vinification: The hand-harvested grapes undergo spontaneous natural fermentation with native yeasts. Maceration and initial fermentation happen in concrete tanks, followed by aging entirely in stainless steel tanks to preserve raw fruit purity and block any woody oak influence. It is bottled with low total sulfites.
Service & Food Pairings- Serving Tips: This natural-leaning red does exceptionally well with a very slight chill (around 14–16°C / 58–60°F) to emphasize its crunchy berry characteristics and earthy snap.
-
Food Pairings: Its vibrant acidity and soft tannins make it incredibly versatile. It is excellent alongside:
Spicy or seasoned street food, providing a “delightful counterpoint to subtle heat from guajillo chilis” in dishes like beef birria tacos.
- Hearty pork sausage served with creamy polenta and braised greens.
- Classic Italian charcuterie boards, black bean burgers, or casual roasted poultry
