  • Product Info

The 2019 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut is a historic vintage for the winery's flagship tête de cuvée from the Anderson Valley. Notably, it is the first vintage made with 100% malolactic fermentation and achieved a perfect 100-point score from Wine Enthusiast, making it the first U.S.-made sparkling wine to ever reach this milestone.

    Aroma and Bouquet

On the nose, the 2019 vintage offers a complex and beguiling profile. It opens with a delightful mix of fruit and savory characteristics:
    • Primary Fruits: Notes of quince paste, stone fruits, green apple, and pear, brightened by citrus blossoms and a hint of blood orange.
    • Autolytic & Savory Notes: Distinct aromas of light pastry crust, toasted brioche, and crème brûlée.
    • Earth & Spice: Subtle flecks of oak spice, pine forest, resinous herbs, and delicate salt.
    Palate and Texture

The palate is powerful, layered, and exceptionally well-integrated:
    • Flavors: Concentrated flavors of baked apple, pear skin, white peach, lemon zest, and Asian pear.
    • Texture & Mousse: It features a remarkably smooth, velvety, and creamy texture with fine, tiny bubbles that expand into a fine mousse.
    • Structure: A medium-to-full body balanced by a bright, mouthwatering entry and a distinct chalky salinity.
    • Finish: The finish is long, elegant, and gracefully structured, leaving behind lingering notes of citrus acidity and rich pastry richness.
    Technical Composition

    • Blend: 52% Chardonnay, 48% Pinot Noir (including 3.9% of 2016 Chardonnay reserve wine).
    • Winemaking: 4.9% fermented in oak casks with 8 weeks of batonnage. The wine used for the dosage was aged 4 years in oak.
    • Dosage: 6 g/L (the lowest dosage ever utilized for this bottling).
    • Aging: Spent over 5 years on the lees before being disgorged in February 2024, followed by an additional 7 months of aging on the cork prior to release.
    Critical Acclaim & Aging Potential

While highly expressive and drinkable now, critics from Vinous note that this young, potent wine will reward those who show patience. It has a recommended cellar life and aging potential of 10 to 15+ years.
