    90pts Vinous Media
The 2024 Annia is a blend of Ribolla Gialla, Tocai Friulano, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco. Ripe pear, white flowers, mint, spice and light tropical notes are nicely pushed forward. This is a softer style than most wines Dan Petroski has made at Massican. All the elements are very nicely balanced. This is the first vintage that includes a touch of Pinot Bianco. Terroir
Massican “Annia” is rooted in Napa Valley, drawing inspiration from the white wines of northeastern Italy while expressing a distinctly Californian sense of place. The vineyards supplying Annia are located in cooler pockets of the valley, where morning fog and afternoon breezes temper Napa’s warm climate and preserve freshness. These conditions allow aromatic white varieties to develop fully without losing acidity or precision.

The soils are primarily well-drained loam with gravelly and volcanic elements, contributing to clarity of fruit and a subtle mineral backbone. The 2024 vintage emphasizes brightness and balance, shaped by a growing season that favored aromatic purity and tension rather than overt richness.

    Winemaking & Technical Notes
Annia is a white blend led by Ribolla Gialla and Tocai Friulano, with Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco playing supporting roles. Each variety is harvested separately at optimal ripeness to preserve its individual character. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel and neutral oak, a deliberate choice that maintains freshness while adding gentle texture.

The wine undergoes aging on the lees, enhancing mouthfeel and complexity without masking varietal expression. Oak influence is minimal and carefully managed, allowing the wine’s Mediterranean-inspired profile to remain clean, vibrant, and food-friendly. The final blend reflects Massican’s focus on elegance, restraint, and balance.

    Tasting Notes
The 2024 Massican Annia opens with an aromatic profile that is both lifted and nuanced. Notes of green apple, pear, and citrus peel are complemented by subtle floral tones and a delicate herbal edge reminiscent of almond skin and fresh hay. A faint saline note adds intrigue and hints at the wine’s Old World inspiration.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a finely textured, almost waxy mouthfeel. Flavors of lemon zest, white peach, and crisp apple unfold alongside hints of almond and wet stone. Bright, well-integrated acidity provides energy and drive, carrying the wine smoothly through the mid-palate.

The finish is clean, refreshing, and persistent, leaving impressions of citrus oil, mineral nuance, and gentle bitterness that adds sophistication and balance. The overall expression is poised and restrained, offering complexity without excess weight.

    Food Pairing & Service
Massican “Annia” 2024 is exceptionally versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with seafood, shellfish, and light pasta dishes, as well as grilled vegetables, fresh salads, and soft cheeses. Its subtle texture and refreshing acidity also make it an excellent match for Mediterranean and vegetable-driven cuisine.

Serve at 48–52°F (9–11°C) in a medium-sized white wine glass to emphasize aromatics and precision. While highly enjoyable upon release, Annia can evolve gracefully over 3–5 years, developing additional depth and savory complexity with time.
