  • Product Info

The 2024 Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc (IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert / Cité d'Aniane) is an incredibly complex, singular white field blend from the Gassac Valley in the Languedoc region of Southern France. Frequently praised as the "First Growth of the Languedoc", the estate's white bottling is legendary for its unconventional composition and its rare capacity to age beautifully over decades. The 2024 vintage balances a rich, powerful Mediterranean texture with an energizing beam of cool-climate mineral acidity.

    Tasting Notes

    • Aroma: The nose opens with an intense floral perfume of hawthorn, acacia, and white blossom, before evolving into ripe stone fruits like apricot, peach, yellow plum, and pink grapefruit. Deep aeration introduces a faint touch of honey, pink grapefruit pith, fresh-cut chives, and a subtle flinty smoke.
    • Palate: A sleek, silky, and medium- to full-bodied entry that races across the palate with great concentration and viscous, savory layers. Ripe pear, white peach, and fresh almond flavors are immediately countered by an electrifying, blazing line of natural zesty acidity.
    • Finish: Impeccably long, persistent, and structured. It signs off with a subtle structural grain of fine tannins and bitters, supported by a dense, chalky, and salty mineral extract.
    Technical & Vinification Details

    • The "Grand Cru" Field Blend:

The composition is highly unique, featuring massale selection cuttings sourced from legendary estates across Europe:
      • 35% Viognier (originally sourced from Georges Vernay in Condrieu)
      • 29% Chardonnay (originally sourced from Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault)
      • 13% Petit Manseng (originally sourced from Charles Hours in Béarn)
      • 10% Chenin Blanc (originally sourced from Domaine Huet in Vouvray)
      • 6% Muscat Petit Grain
      • 7% Rare Varieties (including Sauvignon Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Petit Courbu, Muscat d’Alexandrie, Gros Manseng, Semillon, and Fiano).
    • Terroir & Climate: The vines (averaging 36 years old) are planted in cold, glacial White Lutecian Limestone soils. The 2024 season saw generous spring rains and a warm but not scorching summer, capped off by late rains that allowed a long, slow ripening window. Yields were low at just 26 hl/ha.
    • Winemaking: 100% hand-harvested grapes undergo a 2 to 3-day skin maceration, followed by a temperature-controlled fermentation entirely in stainless steel tanks. To preserve its crystalline freshness, the wine avoids oak entirely and is aged for just 4 months in stainless steel before bottling. Chemistry metrics sit at 13.5% ABV, 3.34 pH, and low residual sugar (2.9 g/l).
    Service & Cellaring Suggestions

    • Serving Tips: The estate recommends serving this wine slightly warmer than standard whites, ideally between 11°C and 12°C (52–54°F).
    • Drinking Window: Daumas Gassac Blanc follows a fascinating aging curve:
      • Young (First 18 Months): Drink now to appreciate its explosive primary aromatics, fresh fruit energy, and chiseled slate-like minerality.
      • Aged (4 to 12+ Years): Cellar it long-term to witness the wine completely transform into a rich, honeyed, waxier profile driven by crystallized fruits and complex tertiary tones.
    • Food Pairings: Pairs elegantly with grilled white fish, raw oysters, or rich seafood pasta like cacio e pepe with crab. It is equally brilliant with soft washed-rind cheeses, herb-roasted chicken, or aromatic Thai green curries.
