Terroir
Clos de la Maltroye is a prized Premier Cru vineyard in Chassagne-Montrachet, located in the Côte de Beaune. The site features classic Burgundian limestone and clay soils, which lend both structure and minerality to the wine. The 2022 vintage benefited from a warm growing season balanced by sufficient moisture, allowing for optimal ripening while preserving freshness. The vineyard’s exposure and well-drained soils contribute to the wine’s concentration and finesse.
Winemaking & Technical Notes
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, the grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, where the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation.Aging continues in barrel (with a moderate proportion of new oak) for approximately 12–14 months, followed by additional time in tank before bottling. Lees stirring may be employed to enhance texture and complexity, resulting in a wine that balances richness with precision.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in color, the 2022 vintage opens with elegant aromas of white peach, pear, and citrus, layered with notes of hazelnut, butter, and subtle toasted oak.On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with a silky texture and vibrant acidity. Flavors of orchard fruit, lemon curd, and a distinct mineral edge unfold with clarity and balance, leading to a long, refined finish with lingering notes of spice and salinity.
Food Pairing & Service
A classic partner for refined cuisine:- Roasted chicken or turkey
- Lobster, scallops, and rich seafood dishes
- Cream-based sauces and risotto
- Soft and aged cheeses
Serve at 50–55°F (10–13°C). Light decanting (15–20 minutes) can help reveal its aromatic complexity.
Cellaring Potential
The 2022 Clos de la Maltroie has excellent aging potential. While already expressive, it will evolve beautifully over the next 8–12+ years, gaining additional depth and developing nuanced notes of honey, nuts, and brioche.Elegant, layered, and terroir-driven, the 2022 Clos de la Maltroye is a superb expression of Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru—crafted for those who appreciate the finesse and complexity of fine white Burgundy.
