    96pts The Wine Advocate
"The G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Coste di Rose (a certified organic wine) is especially fragrant and floral in this vintage. It could be the power of suggestion given the wine's name ("slope of roses"), but you absolutely get hints of heritage rose or rose hip in this beautiful Nebbiolo. The 2021 vintage hits the ball out of the park. There are characteristic hints of tar and something that reminds me of oil paints or linseed oil. I love the clarity of the mouthfeel." - Monica Larner

    95pts Wine Spectator
"Bright cherry, strawberry, rose, menthol and iron flavors weave throughout this elegant, intense red. Picks up accents of licorice and tar while winding down on the complex, focused aftertaste. Best from 2028 through 2047. 400 cases made, 175 cases imported." - Bruce Sanderson

    Terroir
Sourced from the Coste di Rose cru in Barolo, this wine comes from one of the appellation’s most elegant and aromatic vineyard sites. Located near La Morra, the vineyard features calcareous clay and marl soils that contribute finesse, floral lift, and mineral precision. The site’s elevated position and cooler exposures encourage slow, even ripening of Nebbiolo, preserving acidity and aromatic complexity while producing wines of refinement rather than sheer power. The 2021 vintage delivered exceptional balance, structure, and purity across Piedmont.

    Winemaking & Technical Notes
Crafted in G.D. Vajra’s traditional and terroir-driven style, the fruit is hand-harvested and fermented with gentle extraction to preserve Nebbiolo’s aromatic delicacy and structural integrity. Extended maceration and aging in large oak casks allow the wine to evolve slowly while minimizing overt wood influence. The approach emphasizes transparency, elegance, and age-worthiness, allowing the distinctive character of Coste di Rose to remain at the forefront.

    Tasting Notes
Bright garnet in the glass, the 2021 opens with lifted aromas of rose petal, wild strawberry, red cherry, and blood orange layered with notes of tea leaf, anise, and crushed stone. The palate is finely structured yet graceful, offering vibrant red fruit framed by firm but polished tannins and lively acidity. Subtle savory notes of dried herbs, tobacco, and earth emerge through the mid-palate, leading to a long, perfumed finish marked by remarkable precision and elegance.

    Food Pairing & Service
A beautifully structured Barolo, this wine pairs exceptionally well with braised meats, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto, roast duck, and aged cheeses. Its aromatic lift and acidity also complement herb-driven Northern Italian cuisine. Decant for at least an hour in its youth and serve slightly below room temperature to fully reveal its complexity and structure.

    Cellaring Potential
Built for long-term aging, this Barolo will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 15–25 years. With time, its vibrant floral and red fruit profile will deepen into layered notes of leather, dried roses, tar, forest floor, and savory spice while maintaining the elegance and energy that define Coste di Rose.
