The 2024 Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "En Cailleret" represents a spectacular intersection of power and chalky mineral tension. Often regarded as the finest Premier Cru in the appellation, En Cailleret sits on a steeply sloping, southeast-facing hillside with almost zero topsoil—giving the wine a chiseled, refined profile that leans closer to the style of neighboring Puligny-Montrachet than the broader archetype of Chassagne.
Winemaker Thibault Morey deftly navigated a wet 2024 growing season by utilizing biodynamic farming to yield fruit with beautifully balanced phenolics, classical structural precision, and moderate alcohol (typically hovering around 12.5% to 13%).
    Tasting Profile
    • Appearance: A deep, shimmering fuller-yellow robe.
    • Aroma: Intensely focused and initially tightly wound. With air, it unfurls a pristine duality of flesh and stone, showcasing ripe white peach, apricot, dried flowers, and lemon zest grounded by an underlying smoky, gravelly reductive note.
    • Palate: Gorgeously sleek, textured, and broad-shouldered, yet impeccably energetic. It delivers a substantial mouthful of ripe yellow orchard fruits wrapped around a powerful mineral core. The 2024 vintage emphasizes a leaner, precise structural tension rather than sweet density.
    • Finish: Very long, dry, and persistent, culminating in a racy, lip-smacking mineral snap that avoids any austerity while showcasing fine-backed tension.
    Winemaking Details
    • The Vines: Sourced from a 0.65-hectare estate holding consisting of two distinct plots planted between 1983 and 1990. The steeper upper block features highly draining, stony clay-limestone soils, while the lower segment provides a richer substratum.
    • Elevage: The wine is aged for 15 months in 228-liter and 350-liter oak barrels (approximately one-third new oak). It is bottled completely unfiltered to lock in its texturing and power.
    Serving & Pairing
    • Service: Do not rush this bottle. It requires a cellar temperature of around 12–13°C (53–55°F) and an assertive decant to show its full "bandwidth".
    • Cellaring: Critics note this is a highly promising, structural Cailleret. While approachable by 2027, it is built for the long haul and will repay a decade of cellaring, reaching its peak window between 2030 and 2035.
    • Pairing: Outstanding alongside a fillet of pearly turbot with a rich Chardonnay sabayon, buttery pan-seared scallops, roasted capon, or veal chops accompanied by wild hedgehog mushrooms
