A beautifully refined Chambolle-Musigny from Anne Gros, one of the most respected growers of the Côte de Nuits. La Combe d'Orveau comes from a 1.1-hectare parcel at the southern edge of Chambolle-Musigny, close to the border with Vosne-Romanée and overlooking the corridor toward Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux and Clos de Vougeot.

The east-facing vineyard sits on exceptionally stony, free-draining soils over white marl, producing a particularly elegant and aromatic expression of Pinot Noir. Anne Gros ages the wine in barrel, approximately 30% new oak.

The challenging 2024 vintage produced remarkably little wine from this parcel, but what survived is beautifully expressive. Bright cherry, raspberry and pomegranate are joined by rose, violet and subtle notes of lavender, anise and white pepper. The palate is graceful and finely textured, with supple tannins, fresh red fruit and the silky, perfumed character that makes Chambolle-Musigny so distinctive.

Already charming in its youth, La Combe d'Orveau also has the structure to develop gracefully over the next decade. A superb introduction to the wines of Anne Gros and an especially compelling village-level Burgundy from an exceptional site.
