Terroir
Comte de la Chevalière Sancerre Rosé is produced in the Sancerre appellation of the Loire Valley, a region best known for its cool climate, pronounced minerality, and terroir-driven wines. Unlike Sancerre Blanc, which is Sauvignon Blanc–based, Sancerre Rosé is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, offering a distinctly elegant and restrained expression of rosé.The vineyards are planted on Sancerre’s classic mix of limestone, clay, and flinty soils (silex). These soils play a critical role in shaping the wine’s freshness and mineral edge, while the region’s cool continental climate preserves acidity and aromatic clarity. Gentle sunshine and cool nights allow Pinot Noir to ripen slowly, resulting in delicate fruit character and refined structure rather than overt ripeness.
Winemaking & Technical Notes
Sancerre Rosé is traditionally crafted using direct pressing or very short maceration, extracting just enough color and phenolic material to provide structure while maintaining delicacy. For Comte de la Chevalière, the emphasis is on precision and purity, with fermentation carried out in stainless steel to retain freshness and highlight the grape’s natural aromatics. No oak is used, and the wine is bottled relatively young to preserve vibrancy and lift. This restrained winemaking approach allows the terroir and varietal character of Pinot Noir to remain at the forefront, resulting in a rosé that is crisp, mineral-driven, and distinctly Loire in style.
Tasting Notes
The wine presents a pale, luminous salmon-pink hue, signaling elegance and restraint. On the nose, it offers a refined bouquet of wild strawberry, red currant, and raspberry, accented by subtle floral notes and a faint hint of citrus zest. A gentle mineral tone adds complexity and a sense of place. On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied with a crisp, linear profile. Flavors of fresh red berries, cranberry, and blood orange are carried by bright, mouthwatering acidity. The texture is clean and precise, with a subtle phenolic grip that adds structure without weight.
The finish is dry, refreshing, and mineral-driven, lingering with red fruit and a delicate saline note. Overall, the wine is poised and refreshing, offering sophistication and balance rather than overt fruitiness.
Food Pairing & Service
Comte de la Chevalière Sancerre Rosé is an exceptionally food-friendly wine. It pairs beautifully with charcuterie, grilled seafood, shellfish, and salads, as well as lighter poultry dishes and Mediterranean fare. Its acidity and mineral structure also make it an excellent companion to goat cheese, a regional classic pairing.Serve well-chilled at 46–50°F (8–10°C) in a medium-sized white wine glass to highlight aromatics and freshness. Designed for early enjoyment, this rosé is best consumed young, when its vibrancy and precision are at their peak.
