Airy and remarkably fresh, the 2024 Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze blossoms with a bouquet of sweet white flowers, lime zest and crushed green apples. It is silken in feel with a tantalizing acid core and citrus-infused orchard fruits that add contrast. A salty flourish lingers, offset by a tinge of sweet spice as the 2024 finishes admirably long yet spry. Drinking Window 2025 – 2028 - By Eric Guido on December 2025Terroir
The Cartizze subzone represents the pinnacle of Prosecco production, and Col Vetoraz’s vineyards lie within this highly prized hillside amphitheater in Valdobbiadene, where steep slopes and meticulous vineyard work define quality. Elevations range from roughly 250 to 400 meters, with constant air circulation that helps maintain vine health and aromatic precision. The soils are a complex mix of sandstone, marl, and clay, providing both drainage and mineral nuance while limiting excessive vigor. The 2024 vintage benefited from a temperate growing season with ample sunshine and cooling evening temperatures, allowing the Glera grape to retain freshness while achieving full aromatic maturity. In Cartizze, these conditions amplify the grape’s natural elegance, yielding wines that are notably more layered and refined than standard Prosecco expressions.
Winemaking & Technical Notes
Col Vetoraz produces its Cartizze from 100% Glera, harvested by hand from select parcels within the DOCG’s most prestigious zone. Gentle pressing is employed to preserve delicacy and purity, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The secondary fermentation takes place using the Charmat method, conducted slowly to retain fine aromatics and create a creamy, persistent mousse. The wine is bottled shortly after fermentation to capture freshness and vibrancy, with no oak influence. Careful attention is paid to balancing residual sugar with acidity, resulting in a style that is expressive and polished without tipping into overt sweetness.
Tasting Notes
The 2024 Cartizze opens with a refined aromatic profile of white peach, ripe pear, and golden apple, lifted by floral notes of acacia and wisteria. Subtle hints of citrus zest and almond add complexity as the wine evolves in the glass. On the palate, the mousse is fine and silky, lending a graceful texture that frames flavors of stone fruit, honeyed apple, and delicate citrus. Despite its generosity, the wine remains poised, supported by refreshing acidity and a gentle mineral undertone that brings clarity and balance. The finish is long, softly textured, and aromatic, with lingering notes of orchard fruit and floral sweetness.
Food Pairing & Service
Col Vetoraz Cartizze DOCG 2024 excels both as a celebratory aperitivo and as a versatile partner at the table. Its balance of fruit richness and freshness makes it an excellent match for delicate seafood, including shrimp, scallops, and lightly dressed shellfish. It pairs beautifully with prosciutto, mild cheeses, and refined antipasti, where its aromatics complement rather than overpower. The wine also shines alongside lightly spiced or subtly sweet dishes, such as Asian-inspired cuisine or fruit-forward salads, where its gentle sweetness and acidity create harmony. Serve well-chilled at 42–46°F (6–8°C) in a tulip-shaped glass to enhance aromatics and preserve the mousse. Best enjoyed young to fully appreciate its vibrancy, elegance, and expressive Cartizze character.
