  • Product Info

The Cavallotto Barbera d'Alba Superior Vigna Cuculo 2023 is a deeply expressive, traditionally crafted red wine that brilliantly bridges power and elegance. Sourced from organically farmed old vines (planted in 1962) in the Vigna Cuculo parcel—located within the family's legendary Bricco Boschis estate in Castiglione Falletto—this wine carries the complex structure and aristocratic muscle typically associated with Barolo territory.
    Aroma Profile

On the nose, the 2023 vintage is seductively perfumed and highly aromatic. It opens with pure layers of wild black cherries, dark plum, and ripe blackberries. As it breathes, it reveals sophisticated undercurrents of incense, violets, delicate rustic earth, and licorice, woven together with a distinct stony mineral backbone.
    Palate & Structure

    • Tasting Notes: The palate delivers an incredibly flavorful and smooth core of dark juicy cherry, blood orange, star anise, hazelnut, and a touch of white pepper.
    • Texture & Weight: It shows a weightless concentration. Despite the richness and density brought on by a warmer growing season, the wine remains medium-to-full-bodied and perfectly balanced, avoiding any heavy or over-extracted feel.
    • Acidity & Finish: True to classic Barbera, it boasts a vibrant, mouthwatering acidity and a savory citrus lift. This lively energy cuts through the rich mid-palate, guiding the wine into a beautifully dry, persistent, and structured finish framed by fine-grained tannins.
    Winemaking Philosophy

The Cavallotto family practices patient, old-school winemaking. The 100% Barbera grapes undergo a long, traditional 10- to 15-day submerged-cap maceration and indigenous yeast fermentation in stainless steel, ensuring the wine is fermented completely dry. It is then aged for 15 to 18 months in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks followed by 6 months of bottle aging before its commercial release.
    Serving & Pairing Recommendations

    • Food Pairings: A phenomenal gastronomic wine. Its high acidity and structure make it perfect for rich Italian charcuterie (prosciutto, salami, lardo), beef carpaccio, or traditional vitello tonnato. It is equally stellar with duck, game birds, pizza, and pastas tossed in rich, savory meat ragùs.
    • Service: Serve slightly cool at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decanting for 30 minutes is highly recommended to let the deep, complex balsamic and spice notes fully unfold.
