Terroir
Sourced from old-vine vineyards in Jumilla in southeastern Spain, Clio reflects a harsh but highly expressive Mediterranean terroir. The vineyards sit at moderate elevation on limestone-rich and rocky soils with extremely low rainfall, forcing the vines to struggle naturally and produce concentrated fruit. Monastrell thrives in these dry, sun-drenched conditions, developing remarkable depth and richness while retaining surprising freshness due to cool nighttime temperatures.Winemaking & Technical Notes
Clio is primarily composed of old-vine Monastrell supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, blending the power and spice of Mediterranean fruit with the structure and polish of Bordeaux varieties. The grapes are hand-harvested from low-yielding vines, fermented in small lots, and aged extensively in French and American oak barrels. The winemaking emphasizes concentration, texture, and opulence while maintaining enough balance to avoid heaviness.Tasting Notes
Deep purple and nearly opaque in the glass, the 2023 opens with intense aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and black cherry layered with espresso, cocoa, vanilla, and sweet spice. The palate is full-bodied and plush, showing dense dark fruit supported by velvety tannins and broad texture. Notes of mocha, licorice, cedar, and baking spice add complexity, leading to a long, powerful finish with impressive richness and persistence.Food Pairing & Service
A bold, decadent red, Clio pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb, and smoky barbecue dishes. It also complements aged Manchego and other firm cheeses. Decant for at least an hour in its youth to allow its aromatics and structure to fully open, and serve slightly below room temperature.Cellaring Potential
Built for both immediate impact and extended aging, this wine will evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years. With time, its dense fruit profile will integrate further with notes of leather, tobacco, earth, and spice while maintaining its signature richness and depth. Name:
