Terroir
Via del Campo comes from Quintodecimo’s estate vineyards in Mirabella Eclano, at the heart of Irpinia in Campania’s Apennine highlands. These vineyards sit at 450–500 meters of elevation, where cool mountain breezes and significant day–night temperature shifts preserve the natural acidity and aromatics that make Falanghina so compelling. The soils here are a complex blend of volcanic ash, sandy loam, and calcareous clays, remnants of ancient eruptions from nearby Mount Vesuvius and the Campi Flegrei volcanic system. This combination provides excellent drainage while contributing mineral tension and subtle smoky-saline undertones.
The 2022 vintage was warm but moderated by elevation and consistent evening cooling, allowing Quintodecimo to harvest fruit with both ripe orchard-fruit richness and precise structural definition, producing one of the most refined expressions of Falanghina from the region.Winemaking & Technical Notes
Professor Luigi Moio, one of Italy’s foremost experts in aromatic white varieties, applies a meticulous, Burgundian-influenced approach to Falanghina. Grapes are hand-harvested at perfect physiological ripeness and undergo gentle pressing to protect aromatic precursors. Fermentation takes place partly in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve brightness, and partly in lightly toasted French oak barrels to build volume and texture.
The wine is aged on its fine lees for 6–8 months, with periodic bâtonnage to enhance creaminess while retaining the variety's natural tension. No malolactic fermentation is allowed, ensuring a crisp backbone of acidity. Alcohol typically lands at 13.5%, with impeccable balance and the trademark Quintodecimo polish.Tasting Notes
The 2022 Via del Campo opens with luminous, layered aromas of pear, white peach, quince, lemon blossom, and chamomile, woven with elegant notes of almond paste, crushed stone, and faint vanilla cream from its nuanced oak work. On the palate, the wine is textural and expansive yet carried by a precise mineral line. Flavors of golden apple, ripe citrus, melon, and honeyed florals unfold across a subtly waxy, silky mid-palate. A whisper of volcanic smokiness and an undercurrent of saline minerality add depth and tension.
The finish is long, pure, and quietly powerful, leaving lingering notes of citrus oil, white flowers, almond skin, and cool volcanic stone. This is Falanghina elevated to a level of depth and sophistication few producers achieve—a masterclass in aromatic intensity and textural finesse.Food Pairing & Service
Serve at 48–52 °F (9–11 °C) in a medium-sized white wine glass to showcase its aromatics and layered texture. No decanting is necessary, though the wine will continue to open beautifully with time in the glass.
This Falanghina excels with seafood and delicate Mediterranean cuisine, pairing beautifully with:- Linguine alle vongole
- Grilled branzino with lemon and herbs
- Seared scallops with saffron cream
- Fritto misto
- Fresh buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes
It also works with richer dishes like roast chicken with rosemary, risotto al limone, or prawns with garlic and white wine.
Drink now through 2030, as the wine will gain further honeyed nuance and mineral depth with a few years of bottle age. Name:
