    95pts The Wine Advocate
"Owner-winemaker Marie-Laure Ammons has turned out a lush, creamy-textured 2023 Chardonnay Bacigalupi Vineyard. All Wente selection, fermented and matured a year in mostly older oak (some new French oak is used, and there's a clay egg component as well), toasted hazelnuts accent melon and peach notes on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate seems nearly weightless, finishing with a gently textured finish. 114 cases produced." - Joe Czerwinski

    Terroir
Sourced from the historic Bacigalupi Vineyard in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, this Chardonnay comes from one of California’s most iconic sites—famously tied to the fruit behind the Judgment of Paris. The vineyard’s mix of red clay, gravel, and rocky loam soils promotes both richness and structure, while the cool, fog-influenced climate preserves acidity and precision. Fruit from the prized “Judgment of Paris” block delivers both pedigree and depth, resulting in a wine that balances power with finesse.

    Winemaking & Technical Notes
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, the wine is hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts to emphasize site expression. It undergoes full malolactic fermentation and is aged for approximately 12 months in a combination of mostly neutral French oak, clay vessels, and a small portion of new oak, followed by additional time in stainless steel before bottling. This layered approach builds texture and complexity while maintaining freshness and purity, with no filtration preserving its natural character.

    Tasting Notes
Medium golden in the glass, the 2023 opens with expressive aromas of honeysuckle, ripe apple, apricot, and yellow peach. The palate is rich and layered, offering flavors of stone fruit, baked apple, and subtle tropical notes, supported by a creamy, silk-like texture. Despite its depth, vibrant acidity keeps the wine lifted and energetic, leading to a long, balanced finish with a touch of spice and minerality.

    Food Pairing & Service
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, lobster, and rich seafood dishes, as well as creamy pastas and risotto. Its balance of richness and acidity also makes it a strong match for dishes featuring butter or subtle spice. Serve lightly chilled and consider a brief decant to allow its aromatics and texture to fully open.

    Cellaring Potential
While already expressive, this wine has the structure to evolve over the next 8–12 years. With time, its fruit will deepen into more honeyed, nutty, and savory notes while maintaining its signature balance and elegance.
