Few wines embody traditional Rioja quite like Viña Tondonia. López de Heredia has been making wine in Haro since 1877, following an extraordinarily patient approach that has changed remarkably little over the generations.

The 2014 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a classic blend led by Tempranillo, with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, sourced from the estate's historic Viña Tondonia vineyard. Extended aging in old American oak is followed by further maturation in bottle before release — a process that gives Tondonia its unmistakable combination of maturity, freshness and elegance.

Beautifully evolved yet still remarkably energetic, the 2014 shows red cherry and dried red fruit alongside leather, tobacco, dried herbs, earth and subtle spice. The palate is graceful and finely structured, with polished tannins and the bright acidity that allows Tondonia to age so effortlessly. Rather than power or overt fruit, this is a wine of complexity, balance and persistence.
