Producer Notes
Passion (Greek pas and late Latin (Christian theology) pati: "suffer") is a powerful feeling, a compelling desire for someone or something. Passion can range from eager interest in or admiration for an idea, proposal, or cause; to enthusiastic enjoyment of an interest or activity; to strong attraction, excitement, or emotion towards a person. Our "Gran Passione" wines are exactly this, the expression and devotion to our work that honors the tradition of our land; something to be passionate about.Terroir
The 2024 Gran Passione Rosso originates from the rolling vineyards of the Veneto in northeastern Italy, an area renowned for producing expressive and fruit-forward red wines. The region enjoys a temperate climate influenced by both the nearby Adriatic Sea and the foothills of the Alps, creating a balance of warm daytime sunshine and cooling nighttime temperatures. This diurnal variation allows grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness and aromatic definition.Vineyards used for Gran Passione Rosso are typically planted on gentle hillsides with soils composed of clay, limestone, and alluvial gravel. These soils provide excellent drainage and help regulate vine vigor, encouraging smaller berries with concentrated flavors. The 2024 growing season was characterized by steady warmth and balanced rainfall, producing fruit with generous ripeness while preserving enough acidity to maintain structure and balance in the finished wine.
Winemaking & Technical Notes
Gran Passione Rosso is produced from a blend dominated by Merlot with smaller proportions of Corvina and other local varieties, a combination that brings together plush fruit, structure, and aromatic complexity. A portion of the harvested grapes undergoes a brief drying process inspired by the traditional appassimento method used in Veneto. This partial dehydration concentrates sugars, flavor compounds, and phenolics before fermentation. The grapes are gently crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of fruit. Extraction is managed carefully to achieve depth of color and supple tannins without excessive heaviness. After fermentation, the wine typically undergoes several months of maturation, often in stainless steel with some time in oak to add subtle texture and spice while maintaining the wine’s approachable character.
The result is a wine designed to showcase richness and generosity while remaining balanced and accessible.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2024 Gran Passione Rosso shows a deep ruby color with garnet reflections. The nose is expressive and inviting, offering aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, and plum layered with notes of dried fig, baking spice, and a hint of cocoa. Subtle undertones of vanilla and sweet herbs add additional aromatic complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a round, velvety texture. Dark fruit flavors dominate the entry—black cherry, blackberry compote, and plum—while hints of chocolate, cinnamon, and dried fruit develop across the mid-palate. The partial drying of the grapes contributes a slight richness and depth, giving the wine a plush mouthfeel balanced by moderate acidity and soft, polished tannins.
The overall impression is smooth and generous, with layered fruit and gentle spice creating an approachable yet flavorful profile.
Food Pairing & Service
Serve at approximately 60–65°F (16–18°C). Decanting for 20–30 minutes can help open the wine’s aromatics and soften the texture further. Gran Passione Rosso pairs well with hearty Italian cuisine, including pasta with rich tomato sauces, lasagna, or braised meat dishes. It also complements roasted pork, grilled sausages, and herb-seasoned chicken. For vegetarian pairings, consider eggplant parmigiana, mushroom risotto, or roasted root vegetables. The wine’s soft tannins and ripe fruit also make it a pleasant companion to semi-aged cheeses such as Asiago or mild Pecorino.
Cellaring Potential
Gran Passione Rosso Veneto IGT 2024 is crafted primarily for enjoyment in its youthful stage, when its vibrant fruit and smooth texture are most expressive. However, its concentration and balanced structure allow it to age gracefully for several years.Under proper cellaring conditions, the wine can develop additional complexity for 4–6 years. During this time, the bright fruit will gradually evolve toward notes of dried cherry, fig, and subtle spice while the tannins become even softer and more integrated. For the most vibrant expression, it is best enjoyed between 2025 and 2029.
