Terroir
The Remolinos Vineyard—named for the small whirlwinds (“remolinos”) that pass through the site—is located in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, at the foothills of the Andes. Vines are planted at high altitude, benefiting from intense արև sunlight and significant diurnal temperature variation, which promotes optimal ripening while preserving freshness. The soils are alluvial, composed of clay, sand, and gravel, providing excellent drainage and encouraging deep root systems. This terroir contributes to the wine’s concentration, elegance, and mineral complexity.
Winemaking & Technical Notes
“Amano,” meaning “by hand,” reflects the estate’s meticulous, hands-on approach. The blend is typically led by Malbec, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Petit Verdot and/or Tannat depending on the vintage. Each parcel is harvested and vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in small tanks with careful extraction to achieve structure without sacrificing finesse. The wine is then aged for approximately 18–20 months in French oak barrels (a significant portion new), followed by further bottle aging prior to release.
Tasting Notes
Deep violet with inky intensity, the 2019 vintage opens with an aromatic profile of blackberries, cassis, and ripe plum, layered with floral notes, graphite, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with firm yet refined tannins and a rich, concentrated core of dark fruit. Notes of cocoa, tobacco, and toasted oak unfold through the mid-palate, leading to a long, complex finish marked by elegance and persistence.
Food Pairing & Service
A bold and structured wine suited to rich, savory dishes:- Grilled steaks and Argentine asado
- Braised short ribs and hearty stews
- Lamb and game meats
- Aged cheeses such as Parmesan or aged cheddar
Serve at 60–65°F (16–18°C). Decant for 1–2 hours to fully unlock its depth and aromatic complexity.
Cellaring Potential
Built for longevity, the 2019 “Amano” has excellent aging potential. While approachable with decanting, it will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 12–18 years. With time, expect increased nuance, with tertiary notes of leather, earth, and spice complementing its powerful fruit core.A masterfully crafted blend that balances power with precision, the 2019 Finca Decero “Amano” is a compelling expression of Mendoza’s high-altitude terroir and the artistry of meticulous winemaking.
