    98pts The Wine Advocate
"On the nose, the 2018 vintage assists this wine in speaking clearly of its regional location: raspberry and licorice, coal dust, black tea and tobacco leaf. There are inflections of black truffle and bone broth, which always seem to emerge, however the wine is brighter and more focused than I have seen. It offers a beautiful, svelte display of fruit and tannin, with all things in harmony in the mouth. This is very long, as we would expect from the pedigree of this wine and the vineyard. It is concentrated and intense, sinewy, elegant and powerful—a wine for the future generation." - Erin Larkin

    Terroir
Sourced from the legendary Hill of Grace vineyard in South Australia’s Eden Valley, this Shiraz originates from one of the most revered sites in the Southern Hemisphere. Centered around a historic stone church and planted to pre-phylloxera vines, many of which date back well over a century, the vineyard sits at elevation on ancient soils that naturally limit yields and produce fruit of extraordinary concentration and complexity. Eden Valley’s cooler climate, compared with neighboring Barossa Valley, preserves freshness and aromatic precision, giving Hill of Grace its unmistakable balance of power and elegance.

    Winemaking & Technical Notes
Crafted from a selection of the vineyard’s oldest and most distinguished vine blocks, Hill of Grace is produced with meticulous attention to preserving site expression. Fermentation and maturation are carried out with restraint, allowing the vineyard’s character to remain the focal point rather than oak influence or winemaking technique. The result is a Shiraz defined not by sheer weight, but by detail, structure, and remarkable purity.

    Tasting Notes
Deep garnet with purple highlights, the 2018 opens with an extraordinary aromatic profile of blackberry, dark plum, blueberry, and black cherry layered with notes of violet, sage, star anise, and exotic spice. The palate is concentrated yet remarkably graceful, delivering intense dark fruit supported by exceptionally fine tannins and vibrant acidity. Layers of graphite, cedar, earth, and subtle smoked meat unfold with air, leading to a finish that seems to linger indefinitely. Despite its depth and power, the wine maintains an effortless sense of balance and refinement.

    Food Pairing & Service
A wine worthy of the most ambitious cuisine, Hill of Grace pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, dry-aged beef, venison, and richly braised dishes. It also complements truffle-focused preparations and aged hard cheeses. Decant for several hours in its youth to fully reveal its complexity and aromatic depth.

    Cellaring Potential
One of Australia’s greatest age-worthy wines, the 2018 Hill of Grace is built to evolve for decades. While already captivating, it will continue to develop over the next 30–50 years, gradually revealing layers of dried flowers, leather, earth, spice, and savory complexity while maintaining the elegance and structure that have made Hill of Grace a benchmark for fine Shiraz worldwide.
