The 2013 Dom Pérignon is pretty closed right now. Deep and layered, the 2013 shows quite a bit of density today. It's a typical wine for this vintage, a year marked by a warm summer but a late harvest because the growing season got off to a late start. The 2013 is finally starting to open a bit and show some textural breadth, but it remains on the reticent side. Drinking Window: 2024 – 2044 - By Antonio Galloni on March 2024Terroir
This exceptional prestige cuvée from the Dom Pérignon house draws exclusively from the finest Grand Cru vineyard sites across the Champagne region. The 2013 vintage followed a challenging start with a cold, wet spring, yet was redeemed by “the sunniest summer ever recorded in Champagne,” followed by a dry September and east winds that kept the grapes healthy until the late-September harvest. The soil matrix in these vineyard zones is rich in chalk and limestone, providing superior drainage, reflective light and a signature mineral backbone. The combination of high quality parcels plus the vintage’s climatic drama gives this wine both concentration and finesse.Winemaking & Technical Notes
The Luminous Collection is a limited-edition variant of Dom Pérignon’s classic vintage cuvée, distinguished by its presentation and emphasis on matured elegance. It is marked simply as “Vintage 2013”, and is drawn from the blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (and often a small component of Pinot Meunier) typical of the house. Bottled after extended cellar time, this edition has been aged more than eight years on its lees before disgorgement. The alcohol level is 12.5% for this bottling. A very low dosage is used, preserving the wine’s purity, tension and mineral expression.Tasting Notes
In the glass the 2013 Luminous reveals a pale gold hue with a delicate, persistent mousse. The nose is subtle yet layered: aromas of mirabelle plum, apricot and orange blossom meet green herbal notes of eucalyptus, menthol and vetiver, followed by pepper, cardamom and licorice stick, finishing with silvery iodised mineral and toasted brioche elements. On the palate the attack is refined, offering bright acidity and a fine, silky texture. The mid-palate displays lemon pith, white peach, crushed shells and chalky minerality, leading into a long, saline-mineral finish that evokes oyster shell and sea spray. The overall impression is one of elegance, complexity and a poised tension between fruit richness and mineral precision.Food Pairing & Service
Serve this Champagne at approximately 10–11 °C (50–52 °F) in a large tulip-shaped glass to allow the aromas to fully develop and the fine bubble structure to shine. Because of its elegance and depth, it benefits from 10–15 minutes out of the fridge before serving. Pair this 2013 Luminous with refined fare such as poached lobster with beurre blanc, diver scallops with citrus-herb butter, or grilled turbot with sea-salt and fresh herbs. For something even more luxurious, try white truffle risotto or caviar with blinis and crème fraîche. On the cheese side, a well-matured Comté or a soft triple-cream cheese with fresh pear and walnut works beautifully. This vintage is approachable now but has excellent cellaring potential—ideal to savor over the next 10-15 years under proper conditions. Name:
