Domaine Petit-Roy Bourgogne Rouge "De Sousa" 2023 is a vibrant, low-intervention red Burgundy crafted by winemaker Seiichi Saito from exceptionally old Pinot Noir vines planted in 1949 in the prestigious Pommard appellation. This wine exemplifies natural winemaking philosophy through its use of 100% whole-cluster fermentation, which imparts complexity and structure while preserving the fruit's delicate character. The resulting wine displays a translucent ruby color that hints at its elegant, refined nature. On the palate, electric acidity cuts through with precision, while mineral-driven flavors dominate the profile. Deliberately left un-oaked, this Burgundy allows the pure expression of terroir and vintage to shine through without the influence of wood aging, making it an ideal choice for those seeking authenticity and freshness in their red wine. Perfect for food pairing or contemplative sipping, this wine captures the essence of traditional Burgundian winemaking with a modern, minimalist approach.

    89 Point

Aroma: Fresh, lifted nose bursting with red cherry, red currant, and pomegranate, accented by delicate stem spice and clean floral undertones.
Palate: Lean, racy, and tightly wound. It features a sharp, electric acidity, juicy red berry core, and subtle earthy forest floor nuances.
Texture & Finish: Light-bodied and precise with fine, integrated whole-cluster framing and a clean, mineral-saline finish.
Vinification: 100% whole cluster with grapes chilled to 12°C. Undergoes semi-carbonic maceration and ambient yeast fermentation in a tank, featuring very gentle punch-downs near the conclusion of fermentation.
Aging: Aged for 12 months in used/neutral barriques, followed by an additional 5 months settling in tank.
Handling: Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur additions (total around 30-50 ppm at bottling).
