    91pts Wine Advocate
Based on the 2019 vintage and disgorged in November 2024 with a dosage of eight grams per liter, the latest release of Laurent-Perrier’s NV Brut Cuvée Rosé is showing nicely, opening with aromas evocative of pomegranate, dark cherry, blood orange and bergamot, with a with hint of Sichuan pepper. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, vinous and expansive, with a youthful, frothy mousse and a richly concentrated core of fruit, underpinned by ripe yet vibrant acidity. The wine concludes with a long, perfumed finish. This is a versatile Champagne that pairs seamlessly with a range of dishes, from red meats to tuna. Drink Date: 2025 - 2034

Since Olivier Vigneron’s recent appointment as cellar master at Laurent-Perrier, I was eager to arrange a visit in Tours-sur-Marne with him—Vigneron being not only responsible for Laurent-Perrier but also for Salon and Delamotte, houses within the Laurent-Perrier Group. Naturally, the long interval between harvest and commercialization in Champagne means that, for some time, we will be still tasting the fruits of the long-serving former chef de caves, Michel Fauconnet.

Laurent-Perrier owns 150 hectares of vineyards, accounting for roughly 10% of their needs. Out of the 1,300 hectares from which they source fruit, an important part is cultivated under the direct oversight of Laurent-Perrier. While the house has not yet implemented organic farming across its vineyard holdings, since 2018 their viticultural practices have shifted toward somewhat more thoughtful agronomy, with soils worked mostly by mechanical means. As is customary among many maisons, Laurent-Perrier does not impose agricultural methods upon its contracted growers, though it incentivizes more conscientious practices by offering premium pricing for certified fruit.

The house vinifies all its base wines exclusively in stainless steel at low temperatures. The wines undergo a comparatively brief élevage and invariably complete full malolactic fermentation. Of the 700 stainless steel tanks in use, some 300 are dedicated to reserve wines, which are stored by vintage, village and grape variety. The resulting style—anchored in Chardonnay—is elegant, racy and fresh, usually without tipping into austerity. “Usually,” because the large-scale Brut La Cuvée may occasionally strike some palates as somewhat meager.

As ever, Grand Siècle is composed from three vintages, drawn from up to 11 grands crus across the appellation, typically blending 30 to 50 individual vins clairs. Its varietal composition is adjusted in pursuit of harmony, and the result is a Champagne uniting primary and secondary aromatics into a cohesive whole, with a fleshy core of fruit yet rarely tipping into oxidation. This reflects the house’s aspiration to produce wines of freshness and structure capable of withstanding the test of time.

Signed with a gently reductive signature and finished with a dosage of six to seven grams per liter, Grand Siècle remains a dependable cuvée, capable of graceful evolution over more than two decades without succumbing to the oxidative proclivities that so often homogenize the aromatic range of mature Champagne. The late-disgorged Grand Siècle Les Réserves are older iterations that are rereleased exclusively in magnums at later stages of evolution after prolonged aging on the lees, extending well beyond the already-lengthy maturation of the standard magnums, which themselves are typically released some four years after their bottle-sized counterparts.

    Terroir
Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Brut is crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir sourced from select crus across the Montagne de Reims, where chalk-rich soils and cool northern exposures produce fruit of aromatic lift and structural finesse. Villages such as Ambonnay, Bouzy, Tours-sur-Marne, and Louvois—long prized for their expressive Pinot Noir—contribute depth, freshness, and a signature red-fruited purity.

The region’s deep chalk subsoil plays a vital role, regulating water and temperature throughout the growing season while preserving acidity. This geological backbone ensures that even fully ripe Pinot Noir retains vibrancy and elegance. Rather than relying on blending white and red wines to achieve color, the character of the terroir itself is central to the wine’s identity, allowing Pinot Noir to speak clearly and transparently.

    Winemaking
Introduced in 1968, Laurent-Perrier’s Cuvée Rosé was distinctive from the outset for its commitment to the saignée method—a technique involving brief skin contact to extract both color and aromatic complexity directly from Pinot Noir grapes. This approach gives the wine its luminous hue and layered red fruit profile without heaviness.

Fermentation occurs in stainless steel to preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The wine then undergoes extended aging on the lees, allowing for textural refinement and the development of fine mousse. Dosage is measured and balanced, designed to enhance harmony while maintaining clarity and lift. The result is a rosé Champagne shaped by precision, patience, and a clear stylistic vision.

    Tasting Notes
In the glass, Cuvée Rosé presents a vibrant salmon-pink color, animated by a persistent, delicate bead. The nose is expressive and refined, offering aromas of fresh strawberry, raspberry, and red currant, interwoven with subtle floral notes and a hint of citrus zest. With air, delicate nuances of rose petal and faint spice emerge.

On the palate, the wine is lively and poised, defined by bright acidity and a silky mousse. Red berry flavors unfold with purity and balance, supported by a subtle mineral undertone. There is a remarkable sense of freshness beneath the fruit, lending both elegance and structure. The finish is long and clean, echoing wild berries and a faint saline lift.

The overall impression is one of precision and vibrancy—Pinot Noir expressed with clarity, finesse, and unmistakable charm.

    Food Pairings
Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé is exceptionally versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, tuna tartare, duck breast, and charcuterie, where its red fruit profile and acidity provide contrast and lift. The wine’s freshness also complements lightly spiced Asian cuisine and dishes featuring berries or pomegranate.

For cheese, consider aged Gruyère, young goat cheese, or soft-ripened selections that echo its creamy texture. Serve chilled at approximately 46–50°F in a tulip-shaped glass to allow the aromatics to fully express themselves.

    Cellaring & Longevity
While immediately appealing for its vibrancy and expressive fruit, Cuvée Rosé Brut has the structure to develop gracefully over time. With additional bottle age, the wine will gain subtle savory complexity and greater textural integration, revealing notes of dried red fruit and delicate pastry.

Properly cellared, it should drink beautifully over 10–15 years, maintaining its balance and refinement. It remains one of Champagne’s most iconic rosé expressions—elegant, luminous, and timeless in its appeal
