The 2023 Pinot Noir Holstein Estate was fermented with 20% whole clusters and matured for 11 months in 20% new French oak. The nose is bursting with strawberry, pomegranate, blood orange, damp earth and tea leaves. Medium-bodied, it floods the mouth with layer after layer of perfumed, crunchy fruit. It’s framed by fine, chalky tannins and fireworks of fresh acidity and has a very long, layered finish. 350 cases were made. Drink Date: 2025 – 2040 Published: Dec 04, 2025 Reviewed by: Erin Brooks

    Terroir
The Holstein Vineyard is situated in a cool-climate, coastal-influenced site ideally suited to Pinot Noir, where maritime breezes and morning fog moderate temperatures and extend the growing season. These conditions allow for slow, even ripening, preserving natural acidity while encouraging aromatic complexity. The vineyard’s exposure and elevation contribute to both freshness and structural precision, hallmarks of finely balanced Pinot Noir.

Soils at Holstein Vineyard are primarily well-drained sedimentary and marine-derived formations, lending the wine a distinct mineral thread and refined tannic structure. The 2023 vintage benefited from a temperate growing season that emphasized clarity of fruit, vibrant acidity, and elegance over excess ripeness, aligning seamlessly with Granville Wine Co.’s terroir-forward philosophy.

    Winemaking & Technical Notes
Granville Wine Co. approaches Holstein Vineyard Pinot Noir with a focus on transparency and site expression. The wine is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure purity of fruit. Fermentation is conducted with a mix of whole berries and gently crushed fruit, allowing for nuanced extraction and aromatic lift.

A measured use of French oak barrels, with a restrained percentage of new oak, supports structure and texture without overshadowing the vineyard’s character. The wine undergoes élevage designed to integrate tannins and build complexity while preserving freshness and balance. The overall approach favors finesse, precision, and age-worthiness rather than overt power.

    Tasting Notes
The 2023 Holstein Vineyard Pinot Noir opens with an expressive and elegant aromatic profile. Red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry form the core, complemented by notes of rose petal, crushed herbs, and subtle baking spice. A faint earthy undertone—suggestive of forest floor and damp stone—adds depth and nuance.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a silky, finely woven texture. Flavors of bright red fruit and cranberry are framed by lively acidity, giving the wine lift and energy. Tannins are refined and precise, providing structure without heaviness. As the wine unfolds, subtle notes of clove, tea leaf, and mineral emerge, enhancing complexity.

The finish is long, graceful, and focused, marked by lingering red fruit, gentle spice, and a cool-climate freshness that invites another sip. The overall impression is one of balance and restraint, emphasizing elegance over intensity.

    Food Pairing & Service
Granville Wine Co. Holstein Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023 pairs beautifully with roast poultry, duck, and pork, as well as mushroom-based dishes, grilled salmon, and herb-driven cuisine. Its acidity and finesse also make it an excellent match for earthy vegetarian preparations and soft, bloomy-rind cheeses.

Serve at 54–58°F (12–14°C) in a Burgundy-style glass to highlight aromatics and texture. While approachable upon release, this wine has the balance and structure to develop additional savory and tertiary complexity over 6–10 years of cellaring.
