The cooler position and limestone-rich soils of the appellation tend to produce Pinot Noir with freshness, perfume and mineral definition, offering a more restrained and elegant counterpoint to some of the richer reds found elsewhere around the hill of Corton.

The 2023 shows bright red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, joined by violet, subtle spice and an appealing savory, earthy character. The palate is energetic and finely structured, with fresh acidity and polished tannins framing the pure red fruit. With air, notes of dried herbs, forest floor and stony minerality add further complexity.

Follin-Arbelet's traditional approach suits the character of the vineyard particularly well, allowing the freshness and transparency of Pernand-Vergelesses to remain at the forefront. There is enough generosity to make the 2023 attractive in its youth, while its structure and balance should allow it to develop additional savory complexity with bottle age.

A compelling Premier Cru Burgundy for drinkers who value finesse and terroir over sheer power, and an excellent introduction to the distinctive red wines of Pernand-Vergelesses.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0708/8635/9236/files/DomaineFollin-ArbeletClosduChapitre2023750ml_d0544938-2605-4950-9752-3db3a500b81b.jpg?v=1790959754
